#Hairgoals How to Get Mermaid Hair

Ladies all around the world sighed with envy when Kylie Jenner unveiled that infamous mermaid green dye job. And, in the years since, it has been imitated by everybody from Katy Perry to Hilary Duff, Nicki Minaj, and more. There’s clearly something special about that ocean vibe that we just can’t get enough of because pretty pastel tones aren’t the only sea inspired trend to have made it big recently.

The mermaid wave is also hot right now. It’s a style favoured by glamorous gals like Amanda Seyfried, Gigi Hadid, and James Bond babe Naomie Harris. As it isn’t quite as dramatic as dyeing your hair coral green, the mermaid curl is a great look for ladies who want to stick with their natural colour. However, if you’re feeling super bold, you could even combine the two and rock a kooky dye job with tumbling, beachy curls, a la Lady Gaga.

These simple tips will show you how to introduce a little Ariel-esque drama to your hair.

Step One: Create a Centre Parting

The first thing that you need to do is take a thin comb and create a centre parting. This look also works with a deep side parting, as long as you keep the split neat and clear. You might find that styling is a little easier with hair that hasn’t been washed the night before; the natural oils will add shine and vitality. They’ll also give your hair some protection when it comes to heat based styling, which we all know is tough on the follicles.

Step Two: Start Curling the Ends

If you want to get flawless mermaid waves, you need to make sure that you’re only curling the mid and bottom sections of hair. The top and roots should stay relatively straight and flat, so that the curls almost ‘tumble’ into your tresses. Leave the curling irons on a mid to low heat, so you’re not burning and damaging your tresses. Also, try to keep the curls relatively loose and relaxed; you’re not going for tight ringlets here.

Step Three: Spritz for That Wet Look Chic

Once you’ve styled your hair, all the way around, and are left with beautiful, bouncy waves, spritz the top and roots with hairspray. This will not only keep the style firmer for longer, it’ll also give you a glamorous wet look at the crown, like Queen Bey.

How to Add Coloured Hair Extensions

If you want to rock the mermaid wave and add some bright colour, you don’t necessarily have to opt for a permanent solution. The easiest way to experiment with mermaid coloured highlights, for example, is to pick up some clip in extensions. They are very simple to use, they are guaranteed to stay in place all day, and they are indistinguishable from the real thing if worn correctly.

Shop for clip in hair pieces, at ClipHair, and choose from full hair extensions or highlight extensions. Then, you are free to mix and match your style in whatever way you like. For instance, you could rock a beachy wave during the week and unleash your inner siren at the weekend. The possibilities are endless, so don’t be afraid to get creative and try something new. And, don’t forget that you can wash and condition your clip in extensions, in order to use them again.
