DIY Vegan Hair Serum for Hair Extensions

Hair serums are not only essential for your hair extensions but for your natural hair as well. Split ends, frizz and general hair dryness are not fun to deal with and are a major sign of hair damage, particularly during a change of season. Hair serum is a must to help prevent hair troubles and keep your hair looking smooth, shiny and healthy. Today we will share with you some of our favourite DIY cruelty-free hair serum recipes so you can keep looking amazing.

Step 1: Getting All The Ingredients

The process of making hair serum is incredibly easy and because you only need a little it lasts such a long time. This means you only have to do it once a month or once every two months, depending on your hair. The most time-consuming thing when making your hair serum is getting the ingredients together. For this frizz free serum, you will need to get some: olive oil, jojoba oil, lavender essential oil and peppermint essential oil. Some of this you will have in your kitchen other ingredients are easy to get from a health food shop.

Step 2: Put It All Together

Put 6 drops of the peppermint oil and lavender oil in a jar and stir. If you prefer your hair to smell more floral you can add more lavender oil. Next, add ½ oz of the jojoba oil and mix in a1/2 oz of olive oil. Add the lid to the jar and shake well to make sure it is thoroughly combined.

Step 3: Add It To Your Locks

You don’t need to add very much serum to your locks to nourish them if you have thick hair or particularly dry hair, you may need a little more. I usually use an amount approximately the size of a 1 pound coin. Generally speaking, the top of your hair is the most nourished so I tend to focus my application on the lower third of my locks, particularly the ends. This is different if you are planning on applying this to your remy hair extensions separately. I would try and apply the serum evenly as it is not as nourished as your own hair, brushing your hair with a wide-toothed comb is also advisable to make sure that your serum is evenly distributed from your roots to the ends of your hair.

Step 4: Know When To Reuse

Often hair serums are so nourishing that you do not need to use them every day. Often once midweek will be enough to top up your hair and keep it looking nice. This is not a hard and fast rule. There are a lot of things to take into consideration. Your hair type can play a huge factor, if you have relatively fine hair and don’t use hair extensions daily then a little hair serum will go a long way, if you have thick and curly hair you will often need more to do the same job. How often you wash your hair and your styling routine also plays a big part. You will tell if your hair is feeling dry or you are using heated tools a lot, it is time to add serum.
