For diehard Game of Thrones fans, this week has been filled with talk of one thing. Yes, that thing. The big thing. The most shocking moment on the show since George R.R Martin reminded us that, sometimes, fairytale weddings don’t quite go as planned. Though it was a return to form for the television series, as ever, it was bittersweet.
The words ‘Hold the Door’ will never sound the same again, that’s for sure. Fortunately, there were some triumphant moments too. It was great to see the once cowering Sansa Stark finally find her voice and lay waste to her betrayer with a deliciously sassy speech. Actress Sophie Turner was on top form and managed to make her transformation into a vengeful, fiery diva feel both realistic and satisfying.
To celebrate the return of Lady Sansa and the gorgeous girl who plays her, we’re going to get to know a little more about Sophie Turner and her finest hairstyle moments.
The Undefeatable Princess
In her role as Lady Sansa Stark, Sophie Turner has been a spoiled daughter, a catty sister, a beaten bride, and a tactical pawn for manipulative throne chasers. She may be heir to Winterfell, but it has been a difficult journey for this downtrodden princess. Finally though, season six of GOT is giving Sansa the chance to fight back. She’s even got a kickass new hairstyle to match. Gone are the buns and barrettes; they’ve been replaced with a chunky fishtail braid fit for fighting and surviving. If you want to steal it for yourself, use hair extensions to add volume and don’t worry if it’s a little rough around the edges.
The Fiery English Rose
Not only is Sophie Turner an extremely talented actress, she’s also a Brit, which makes her doubly adorable. This English rose has the kind of porcelain skin and flame coloured hair that girls of all ages dream about. She showed the world that she’s miles away from the beleaguered Sansa Stark, at the Oscars Vanity Fair party, with a sophisticated down ‘do. This style is carefully pinned at the top, to provide texture, but it is that incredible length that really makes it special. Fortunately, you don’t have to while away your years at Winterfell, waiting for your own locks to grow; just cheat your way to style perfection with clip in hair extensions.
The Braided Crown
When not on set, Sophie Turner is quite the glamourpuss. She rocked up to the GOT premiere looking sleeker than a Sand Snake, with a beautiful double braided crown. It must be pretty frustrating not being able to cut or make any dramatic changes to your hair, during a stint on a big TV show, so we love that the actress still manages to mix it up. This double braid is, again, kept chunky, and all of that length allows it to be twisted round the crown in quite a bold way. To recreate this style, make sure that you brush out and position a sideswept fringe first.
The Off Duty Topknot
We love it when somebody as famous as Sophie Turner isn’t afraid to pose candid snaps on Instagram. It reminds us that they’re just like everybody else really. They don’t wake up looking red carpet ready and they get as many zits and bad hair days as the rest of us. Although, if we’re being honest, the actress does still look super stylish with this simple topknot. It’s a little messy and very low maintenance, but it’s a great style for summer jogging, yoga sessions, lunch with the girls, and relaxed walks in the park.
