Well what a week! Not only have we had the amazing Valentine’s day but we have had one of the most sensational British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) awards in years. We didn’t just get an appearance from screen royalty but we got an appearance from actual royalty with the duchess of Cambridge (Kate Middleton) and Prince William. In her first red carpet appearance since 2011 Kate Middleton wowed the crowds with her shoulder flashing Alexander McQueen dress and flawless beauty. Watching a wonderful looking couple on Sunday night at the Royal Albert Hall was the perfect way to start a romantic week. Now to end the week with a bang let’s check out how to rock it royalty too.

Preparation for chignon perfection
Known for her characteristic curls this updo chignon is no exception. In order to get the regal, glossy do we need to prep for success. After washing you hair (with a hair mask is best as we are adding some heat) add your extensions and put your hair in rollers. Let them naturally dry for a while, blow dry your rollered hair before unwinding. If your crown section is still too lifeless backcomb the top section for extra oomph.

From half up, half down to forming a crown.
Rocking the royal look is all about getting your appropriately named crown styled to perfection. Kate as always is on trend with her side parted front. Be careful not to create your part too far back as this can flatten your back combing. About two inches or four finger widths long is perfect. Scoop your hair back into a half up- half down look. If you backcombed hair is on show, gently comb over the top to smooth it over. For that perfect beehive style using a bristle brush and a fantail comb as your aids. Secure with pins and tuck the ends underneath to make your hair perfection the envy of your royal subjects.

The ultimate bottom boogie
Now your crown is fit for a tiara let’s focus on the bottom sections. We are making the most of your beautiful curls (if your hair is naturally extra straight, you may need grab your curlers and touch up) so wind them into themselves to create full, luscious curly locks. Tuck your curls up under your beehive. This is an amazing way to hide any loose ends and plump up the bottom of your hive. If there are any extra gaps between the two sections softly brush or comb over the two sections to help merge them. Hair pins will be your best friend for chignon perfection. A lovely light serum and a good strong hold alcohol hairspray spritz is all you need for final chignon perfection. If you are trying this look out for a special occasion then pairing it with spectacular smokey eyeshadow look and a pair of Kate inspired earrings is the fabulous finish touch.
