What are 6D hair extensions?
The 6-dimension hair extensions method is a new form of hair extensions installation where the hair is applied using several strands together. It’s a very quick method that doesn’t use tape in hair extensions, chemicals or clips. Instead, a ‘gun’ loaded with glue tipped human hair is used and takes about 20 minutes for a full head.
This method has gained popularity due to its speed, durability and quick removal process, making them a good option for those who want a more permanent solution to hair extensions as 6D extension can last up to one year if looked after correctly.
What hair do you use for 6D extensions?
Most 6D hair extensions come pre-bonded meaning you will only have to focus on installing the hair alone. As this method offers a more permanent installation, it is highly recommended to use human hair extensions rather than synthetic hair. For a full head you’ll probably need around 4 packs (200 strands) to get a full head effect.
You can use any type of hair whether you want double drawn extensions or cuticle aligned hair.
How to apply 6D hair extensions
The 6D extensions method is perhaps the quickest way to apply permanent hair extensions as the entire process takes around 20 to 30 minutes. This method used a ‘gun’ a small unit of glue tipped strips of hair to install. We highly recommend going to a professional hair stylist in order to get the best results and for the safest application.
Below are some steps on how 6D extensions are applied.
- Leave a small layer on top of the head for coverage.
- Take a small section of hair not too far and hold it not too far away from the scalp (width of 5cm and thickness of 0.5 to 1cm).
- Toggle the button to open the section where there is a ‘slot’. Open the card slot and insert the hair extensions. Place the extensions piece on the hair gun and place your small section of natural hair between fun. Place hair evenly on the slot then as close to the scalp as you can and press and hold. Slowly pull out the plastic card after clamping then put the plastic in the upper part of the machine and hold it tightly.
- The most important step of the process – the clamps will break the plastic, making it easy for you to remove it and leaves an invisible, seamless blend.
How long does it last?
6D hair extensions typically last for up to one year – most people often keep the hair in for about six to eight months before they reapply it. These don’t need replacing or adjusting for around at least six months, making them the perfect option for those who like to have permanently long hair. How to remove 6D hair extensions?
The 6d hair extensions tool comes with a removal plier too which is designed to easily remove the glue from natural hair, so the extensions simply slide off. The solution is designed to break the bonds made by the adhesive.
6D Extensions Pros and Cons:
The main benefit to having 6D extensions is the fact that they are permanent, meaning you can sleep in them and won’t need to reapply them every day. They’re also a great way to get permanent length and volume to your hair without the need for any harmful glues or chemicals.
The 6dimension hair extensions method offers one of the most seamless applications as the glue is small and borderline invisible as it can’t be seen between the hair. The hair can last up to a year and can be reused.
The 6D extensions tool only grabs a small amount of hair at a time which can be a little frustrating. To protect your hair, you must keep it away from your scalp, which means that so by the time your hair starts to grow, you may already have long visible regrowth.
Caring for your 6D hair extensions
Aftercare of permanent extensions is really important. As they are permanently attached to your own hair, it’s important they are looked after really well to keep them clean, soft and tangle free, and to avoid any matting. Your hairdresser should provide you with full aftercare instructions and let you know which products are best to use, and which are best to avoid! There are many ways you can keep your extensions in tip-top shape by preparing for them before they are applied and taking extra care after they are applied. Once the extensions have been applied it’s recommended you don’t wash them for around 48 hours which gives them a chance to sit and fall naturally in your hair own hair.
Always thoroughly brush and detangle your hair before washing and take care not to get conditioner near the bonds. This can make them slip or result in matting. When drying your hair, never rub it vigorously! Simply pat dry or squeeze your hair dry.
