#hairhacks How to Knot Braid Your Hair

The braid is such a popular style choice, because it’s really easy to create, while also having a strong and distinct aesthetic. Think about it. You can wear the simplest, most basic of braids and you’ll still have a look that is great for work, the bar, the gym, or your favourite restaurant.

It provides a huge amount of versatility too, as celebrity fans of the braid can confirm. Kickass Star Wars heroine Daisy Ridley loves to rock a perfect plait. And so does True Grit actress Hailee Steinfeld, who shot to fame with the coolest double braid we’ve seen in a movie for a long time.

The question is, how do you keep things fresh? Which style of braid is hotter than Blac Chyna’s post-baby body right now? Well, we’ve got the answer. Today, we’re going to show you how to create a flawless knot braid.

Step One: Create Your Sections

Begin by creating a triangular section of hair, which stretches from your face to your crown. This just the same as you would start a French braid; from the front and braiding backwards. If you’re planning to wear hair extensions, you’ll need to carefully attach them before you do this. Remember, using a fine toothed comb to slightly agitate the hair at the point of contact is an easy way to create more grip.

Step Two: Start Knotting

With the section of hair, use your fingers to separate and hold it in two evenly sized portions. Tie them to one another with a simple loop knot. Make sure that it is tight or you’ll end up with a loose, messy style. Hold the knotted hair in one hand and create another section to the left of this. Use this piece and the already knotted section to form a second knot.

Step Three: Knot and Repeat

Do this again on the right side of your head. Now, you can carry on the knot braid by repeating the previous step until you run out of hair. Don’t forget to keep alternating and tying knots on both the left and right side for a balanced style.

Step Four: Add Those Finishing Touches

Once you do reach the end, it is up to you how you finish. You can tie the braid off with a clear elastic band or you can tuck and pin the end for a more seamless look. Start by rolling the ‘tail’ of your braid up like a pinwheel desert. Then, just slot it neatly beneath the braid just above the nape of your neck. You can spritz with hairspray, but keep things light or you might end up with a crunchy top.

Switching It Up and Keeping It Cool

You don’t have to opt for a standard version of this braid either. It works as a side braid or as a much looser, messier style. If you are going to sacrifice some of the tightness in the knots, however, make sure that you tie the end up securely with an elastic band. You’ll probably find the braid easier to create and notice that it looks fuller when you’re working with unwashed tresses. So, don’t be afraid to go dirty for a day.
