Style Steal: Catwalk Hair

When it comes to identifying the best hair to adopt for the coming season, where better to look than to the catwalks of the biggest names in style? We’re known to blindly follow the likes of Alexander Wang, Stella McCartney, and Jonathan Saunders without batting an eyelid (remember disc belts? Furry boots? Burberry trucker caps? They didn’t come from nowhere!) but we have to admit that more often than not, the catwalks don’t lie, and the looks they portray become hot property in the months that follow. With this in mind, we’ve turned our attention to the A/W 2014 catwalk shows to get some hair inspiration for the months to come.

Catwalk Advice for how to rock:

The Parting

It’s the age-old dilemma… what on earth do we do with our parting? Is it time to reinstate that full fringe we were toying with last year? Do we do the Sienna Miller split-fringe again? Well ladies, relax. It appears there are only two options this year for parting perfection – a clean middle parting or an exaggerated side number. But don’t be fooled, this is no big, exciting side parting either. We’re talking a boyish sweep-over, tucked behind the ear, and your middle parting should take the same shape. Volume and fuss are not on the cards this season, so enjoy a low-maintenance, fringe-free autumn!
The Bob

There are a hundred different ways to style a bob, and the slightest error in the cut or style can make it so last season, honey. Each year a new bob is coined as the one to have, and this year it’s all about simplicity.
The catwalks were rich with short hairstyles, all with blunt cut edges and simple silhouettes. To nail the look, you’ll need a one-length bob around about your jawline, although many designers this year opted for cuts
just below the ear – pretty daring either way for long-locked-lovelies, but follow our tips and you can relax and go for the chop without worrying about growing out your bob. You need to team this look with either an
exaggerated side fringe or a classic middle parting, as previously discussed, to really achieve the look. There was no excessive styling present – it’s either couture straight, floppy with minimal body, or it’s a naturally
tousled number. The fresh-outta-bed look was popular on shorter styles, but the look must not appear styled or you’ve failed your A/W 2014 mission!

Long Hair

Hooray, our favourite subject! Long, luscious hair! There was long hair-aplenty on the A/W 2014 catwalks, but with very minimal variation – the designers knew exactly what look was hot for the coming season. The look that was on every catwalk was a minimal straight ‘do, no outrageous volume or styling, just simple and laid back. Most down-dos featured a middle parting, and almost every example had the hair tucked behind the shoulders creating a gorgeous blanket of hair from behind but leaving the face fuss-free – great for lipgloss fans! Some designers even took to tucking hair into the clothing, going to great lengths to make it seem like a low-maintenance affair, when really the eye is drawn to the smooth, sleek locks immediately. To achieve this look, make sure you’re focussing on the condition of your hair above anything else, and try and keep your cuts one length.
Up-dos

Word of the day: boyish. That’s all your up-do has to be to earn you maximum style points this season! Getting model-level gorgeous has never been so easy – all you need is some shine spray, some hair clips, a comb and some good quality hairspray. Make sure your look is absolutely perfect, there’s no room for mess and every hair has to be carefully given a place and held there. If you’re in the mood for a big, adventurous ponytail or knot then go ahead – but the front has to stay sleek and boyish. Most designers opted for low-slung buns and ponytails teamed with side partings tucked behind ears. Very sophisticated – we like!

Take your cue from the big bad bosses of style and copy some of these beautiful catwalk hairstyles this season, but never be afraid to put your own spin on them. Being adventurous is what makes hair styling so fun! Good luck.
