Insta-worthy Summer Braids with Hair Extensions… and How to Get the Look
Many-a-hairstyles have come and gone over the eons (whatever happened to the bowl cut?), but braids have stayed fashionable and trendy through it all, besides, what better way to accessorise your tanned skin than an on-trend summer braid? They’re a quick and easy way to look stylish in hot weather when having your hair down can get a little hot and sticky. Trust us, the last thing you want to be worrying about in 30 something degrees is how your hair looks. By styling it into a braid, it stays put and keeps you looking good throughout the day.
These looks will help keep you cool and stylish.
These are the coolest and low maintenance summer braid hairstyles that you need to try if you are thinking of ways of slaying while staying cool.
The Fishtail Braid
Fishtail braids have long been a favourite look amongst hair enthusiasts due to how practical and gorgeous they are; plus they provide a stunning texture and shape to your look. This style works perfectly well with hair extensions, and also hold their shape longer than most regular braids so you know this style will keep you looking cute for a while!
Here’s how to achieve your perfectly Instagrammable fishtail braid.
Step 1
Brush or comb your hair thoroughly to remove any tangles and knots in your hair and tie your hair into a ponytail. Starting from the front, divide your hair into two even sections straight down the middle of your hair.
Step 2
Pull a thin strand of hair from outside of the left section. Pull this strand over the right section and grab it under the right section then repeat on the right side. In other words, the strand of hair has gone over the first section and finishes under the second section.
Step 3
Do the same for the other side. Pull a skinny strand of the hair from the outside of the section, then grab it under the left section Keep alternating sides, until you reach the bottom of the braid then tie up with a hair elastic. Make sure you try to use the same thickness for each strand throughout, so you have an even fishtail braid at the end.
The Pull Through Braid
The pull through braid is a hot weather favourite. Sophisticated updos are great for a night out but when it’s time to have fun in the sun, your hair is calling for a more playful style. Although this hairstyle looks deceptively complicated, it’s an incredibly simple style to emulate, AND it will have you looking picture perfect from every angle.
Step 1
This style work best on straight hair, make sure your hair is dry and clean before you start. Gather hair from the front section together (all hair from just above the ears) and tie the hair into a ponytail.
Step 2
Clip in the first piece of your hair extensions, and clip in then in upside down under the ponytail so the clips are hidden, and the extensions blend properly. Secure the extensions and your ponytail with a hair tie and clip that ponytail away so it stays out of the way when you repeat the process with the following sections.
Step 3
The following section should be just behind your ears. Clip your extensions in upside down and secure the ponytail. Divide the first ponytail into two and flip the second one up in between the separation of the two halves of your top ponytail.
Step 4
Add in your clip in hair extensions like previously and create another ponytail near the ends of your ears, but this time, include hair from your first ponytail (so the first ponytail goes around the second, into the third one).
Step 5
Release the second ponytail, which you had pinned up, and divide it in half. Pin the third ponytail you created out of the way, so you can make your final ponytail at the nape of your neck. Repeat this all the way to the ends of your hair, using clear hair ties to help secure the sections. Once you have done, gently tug on each section to help it look full and picture worthy.
The Waterfall Braid
Waterfall braids are such a pretty style that always look astonishing (it’s definitely because of how the strands fall so seamlessly). This hairstyle can be done on wet or dry hair but looks even better on newly washed locks. Follow the steps below on how to achieve the waterfall braid.
Step 1
Add your hair extensions and create a narrow centre parting. Separate an inch section on your hairline on the larger side of your side parting.
Step 2
Separate the larger section into three and cross the top right section over the middle then the left over the middle. Start to work in more hair into the braid by adding an additional section from just above your braid. The braid changes a bit here so, instead of crossing the right part over the middle, let go of the right part so it drops down and starts to create the waterfall part of the braid.
Step 3
Continue adding hair and repeat the process until your braid gets to your earlobe. Repeat on the other side of your head and tie the two braids together at the end. Spray it and that’s your stunning waterfall braids finished!
