There are only a few weeks of 2016 left. It will soon be time for us all to start a brand new year. If you’re the type of person who makes ambitious resolutions, only to quickly abandon them in the chaos of new routines and new adventures, maybe you need to go back to basics.
We’re all fond of making dramatic commitments when the New Year arrives, but small changes can have a big impact. For instance, it’s a great idea to start taking better care of your hair. And it doesn’t have to involve a lot of work. Something as simple as toning it down with the heated styling tools will noticeably boost the health of your tresses.
These clever no heat hair hacks will show you how to create gorgeous styles without going anywhere near those tongs or irons.
The (Clean) Sock Curl
The prospect of curling your hair with nothing but a few pairs of socks might sound fantastical, but it’s very effective. The waves might not last quite as long as they do when created with tongs, but this is a cool way to give your tresses a break and still look lovely. All you have to do is take an armful of clean socks and curl small sections of hair around each one. Start halfway down the hair, if you’re trying to create looser curls and higher up if you want tighter ones. Twist and knot the socks and sleep with them in overnight. In the morning, you’ll have gorgeous tumbling curls.
The Milk and Honey Mask
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a completely natural way to create glossy, shiny straight hair? It’s the type of dream that ladies with frizz-prone tresses can only fantasise about. Or, is it? Well, we’ve been investigating the benefits of natural, DIY hair masks this month. And, we’ve found a super nourishing formula that you can whip up in no time. The only ingredients that you need are milk and honey. Combine one cup of milk with a tablespoon of honey. Mix thoroughly and apply it your scalp. Leave for one hour. If you repeat this twice a week, for two months, your tresses will become noticeably straighter and sleeker.
The Overnight Wave
This is the type of styling trick that will have you going heat free all the time. It’s wonderfully simple; for a fairly soft, gentle wave which will last all afternoon, put your hair into a loose fishtail braid. Do this just before you head off to bed. Sleeping in the braid will cause your hair to hold all of those artificial curves together. The impact is amplified if you wash your tresses first and wait until they’re 80% dry to create the braid. For more curls, create smaller fishtails on either side of your head. Let your locks free and apply smoothing serum in the morning.
The Clip In Hair Extensions
Now, we get to the easiest heat free hair hack of all – cheating your way to style perfection. There is nothing quicker or simpler than using real hair clip in hair extensions. They’ll give your natural hair an instant boost, whether it’s extra volume, thickness, or length that you’re after. You can style extensions with tongs and curlers, but make sure that they are made of real hair first. If you try to style artificial extensions – which are cheap and low quality – they’ll burn and become damaged.
