Health, sunshine and holidays are what we have our minds on at the moment. We are heading to glorious warm weather so whether you are going to Santorini or just Southend you want to look your best. It makes sense then that we are grabbing the protein shakes and hitting the gym. The gym may be great for that bikini body but it hell for your hair and extensions. This is something your friends will understand but guys in your life will never imagine how much work your workout causes. You have to plan your day around when you are going but don’t be disheartened we have some information and tips to get your hair back to being fabulous.
So should I not exercise?
I am not saying this at all I totally understand that a yoga class is great to enjoy with your friends and a run can be an absolute de-stressor so go for it and enjoy! Life is a way to short to only be concerned about what you look like 100% so know that you will not look your best at the time but it is totally recoverable.
Work with what you’ve got
This is one of my favourite sayings and it is super appropriate for your post work out hair. My hair gets a little damp and develops a little frizz after a good work out hair. At some fancy gyms, they may have lovely showers, I do not go to those gyms, so washing my hair is not an option. So instead of fighting my post-workout hair, I have found some hairstyles that look great with it. Dry shampoo at your roots is also your friend.
Style 1: braided ponytail
This look is amazing and works perfectly with hair extensions that are not in pristine condition after your workout. Start by creating a slight side part on the side you want to create your braid. Pin the larger section out of the way for now. Take a small section of hair at your hairline and divide it into two. When I am working backwards with my braid and can’t see it as well I like to do a dutch fishtail, this is personal preference but I find it helps blend my hair extensions easier without being able to see them perfectly in the gym bathroom. To start your braid take a small section from the outside of the left side, cross it underneath then add it to the inside of the right section. Repeat this on the right section and you will have created your first cross. Add strands as you repeat this all the way to the end. If you have your brush with you brush the rest of your hair, if not your look will be more textured. Gather your hair, including your braid, into a low ponytail and secure it. Wrap strands around your hair tie to conceal it and you are done!
Style 2: smart casual top knot
This is my absolute go to for a quick post-gym look. It is so quick and easy and works brilliantly with a headband if your roots are extra sweaty. Another way to make sure your hair looks full and dries nicely is dry shampoo. Divide a triangle shape near your hairline, twist and pin it to create extra volume before you form a high ponytail. Hold the end of your pony and move your hair towards your hair tie for extra oomph. Twist it and twirl it around your hair tie to create your bun. Pin down to secure it and pull some strands out near your temples and you are ready.
